Course Description:
This course covers layered architectures and the OSI Reference Model; design issues and protocols in the transport, network, and data link layers; architectures and control algorithms of local-area, point-to-point, and satellite networks; standards in networks access protocols; models of network interconnection; and provides an overview of networking and communication software.

Prerequisites:
A course in system programming and a course in statistics and probability (such as MATH 461).
Credit:
3 hours (CS certificate students must enroll concurrently in CS 591 ONL). Counts toward a certificate in Computer Science.
